This hand-cut oval cabochon is crafted from authentic Canadian Wilsonite, a highly sought-after lapidary material sourced from the Sudbury region of Ontario. Often historically referred to as a variety of pinite, Wilsonite is a beautiful, fine-grained mineral blend composed of altered scapolite and soft sericite/muscovite mica. This unique composition gives the stone its signature, dreamlike pattern of mottled pastel purples, soft pinks, and pale, earthy greens. Because of its high mica and clay-mineral content, this stone features a uniquely smooth, silky, almost waxy luster that feels incredible to the touch. It is perfectly shaped and polished into a high-dome oval, with a unique matt finish, front and back, making it an exceptional choice for custom wire wrapping, metalsmithing, or display.
This cabochon was cut in my Saskatoon lapidary studio.
