This small oval granular corundum cabochon features deep purple-plum to pink-magenta tones, shifting depending on the lighting conditions. Captured within it's natural host rock, the dark mineral is biotite and the grey mineral is feldspar. Pyrite also occurs as an inclusion in this material, giving a purple lapis-like alure. Under UV light, the stone fluoresces vividly, highlighting its ruby-rich zones and the matrix inclusions. A striking and colourful piece suitable for collections or jewellery.
The ruby material originates from Hopedale, Newfoundland and Labrador, where it was ethically and hand-mined by local prospector Edmund Saunders. This cabochon was cut here in Canada.
The stone measures approximately 17.35 x 11.45 x 4.30 mm, and weighs 7.85 CT.
