This unique dendritic dolomitic limestone was self-collected from the shorelines of Fife Lake, Saskatchewan. It has been hand-cut and polished in Saskatoon into a freeform high-dome cabochon with a flat back, measuring approximately 15.85 x 11.35 x 6.35 mm and weighing 9.75 carats. To ensure versatile setting options, the back of this cabochon is also fully polished.
Dolomitic limestone typically has a Mohs hardness of approximately 3.5 to 4, making it a relatively soft stone that should be handled/set with care. While it is generally harder and more crystalline than pure limestone, it is still susceptible to scratching and chipping if subjected to heavy impact or abrasive cleaners. Due to this delicacy, stones like this are often preferred for pendants or earrings, rather than traditional rings that face heavy daily wear.
