This small corundum-ruby cabochon is a deep magenta-plum colour which changes slightly depending on the lighting conditions. There is slight asterism and weak star formation in certain veiwing angles. There is a small natural fracture in the stone that is only visible at certain angles, the stone has been discounted as a result. The lapidary rough originates from Hopedale, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada and was found by local prospector, Edmund Saunders.
The stone has been shaped into a freeform high-dome oval cabochon measuring 7.15 x 6.15 x 4.55 mm, with a total weight of 2.60 carats. The stone fluoresces vividly under UV light.
