Oval Canadian Corundum-Ruby Cabochon

This small corundum-ruby cabochon is a deep purple-plum-magenta colour which changes slightly depending on the lighting conditions. There is slight asterism in certain veiwing angles. The lapidary rough originates from Hopedale, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada and was found by local prospector, Edmund Saunders.

The stone has been shaped into a freeform oval cabochon measuring 9.65 x 7.00 x 4.70 mm, with a total weight of 4.05 carats. The stone fluoresces vividly under UV light.
