This natural corundum-sapphire originates from Hopedale, Newfoundland and Labrador, sourced from lapidary rough ethically hand-mined by local prospector Edmund Saunders. Hand-cut and polished in my Saskatoon lapidary studio, this oval granular cabochon displays deep purple-plum to pink-magenta tones that shift depending on lighting conditions. Pyrite inclusions create a striking, purple lapis-like allure, while ultraviolet light reveals a vivid fluorescence highlighting its chromium-rich geochemistry. A fully Canadian-sourced and shaped gemstone, this piece is well-suited for custom jewelry designers, collectors, or anyone seeking a unique, locality-specific specimen.
