This striking round cabochon, cut from Hopedale corundum (ruby–sapphire), exhibits vivid natural hues ranging from deep raspberry red to purple, depending on the light. This stone looks like a small galaxy with its small specks of pyrite throughout. The material, hand-dug by local prospector Edmund Saunders in Hopedale, Newfoundland and Labrador, captures the unique beauty of Canadian corundum.
