This natural corundum-sapphire originates from Hopedale, Newfoundland and Labrador, sourced from lapidary rough ethically hand-mined by local prospector Edmund Saunders. Hand-cut and polished in my Saskatoon lapidary studio, this striking round cabochon displays vivid natural hues ranging from deep raspberry red to purple that shift depending on lighting conditions. Small specks of pyrite are scattered throughout the gemstone, giving it the beautiful appearance of a miniature galaxy. Under ultraviolet light, the stone reveals a vivid fluorescence highlighting its chromium-rich geochemistry and a captivating inner glow. A fully Canadian-sourced and shaped gemstone, this piece is well-suited for custom jewelry designers, collectors, or anyone seeking a unique, locality-specific specimen.
