Pear Shaped Canadian Corundum Cabochon

This corundum captured within its natural host rock, displays striking patterns and including both sapphire and ruby (plum to lavender and pinkish-red colours) with fine specks of pyrite. The lapidary rough originates from Hopedale, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, found by local prospector, Edmund Saunders. The material has been shaped into a large freeform, pear or drop-shapped cabochon measuring 33.40 x 16.30 x 7.00 mm, with a total weight of 27.65 carats. The stone fluoresces vividly under UV light.
