This natural corundum-sapphire originates from Hopedale, Newfoundland and Labrador, sourced from lapidary rough ethically hand-mined by local prospector Edmund Saunders. Hand-cut and polished in my Saskatoon lapidary studio, this large freeform pear-shaped cabochon features granular corundum captured within its natural host rock, displaying striking patterns of plum, lavender, and pinkish-red tones accented by fine specks of pyrite. Under ultraviolet light, the stone reveals a vivid fluorescence highlighting its chromium-rich geochemistry. A fully Canadian-sourced and shaped gemstone, this piece is well-suited for custom jewelry designers, collectors, or anyone seeking a unique, locality-specific specimen.
