This elegant drop-shaped cabochon was cut from natural Hopedale corundum-ruby and displays vibrant red to purple tones typical of chromium-rich material. The rough was hand-dug by local prospector Edmund Saunders near Hopedale, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.
The cabochon shows a soft inner glow in natural light thanks to its gentle translucence, and comes alive under ultraviolet light with a vivid chromium-driven fluorescence.
