This elegant drop-shaped cabochon, cut from Hopedale corundum (ruby–sapphire), displays rich red to purple hues characteristic of ruby. The material was hand-dug by local prospector Edmund Saunders in Hopedale, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.
Subtle translucence give this piece a soft inner glow, while vivid fluorescence under ultraviolet light highlights its ruby-rich character.
