This large corundum-ruby cabochon is a deep purple-plum-magenta colour. The lapidary rough originates from Hopedale, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada and was found by local prospector, Edmund Saunders.
The stone has been shaped into a freeform oval cabochon measuring 23.35 x 14.35 x 5.50 mm, with a total weight of 17.25 carats. The stone fluoresces vividly under UV light.
