This beautiful specimen of fine-grained granular corundum (var. ruby) agragate originates from Hopedale, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, and was hand-dug by local prospector Edmund Saunders.
The specimen is nearly pure corundum on each face and has multiple viewing angle possibilities. It displays rich, natural hues ranging from deep purplish-red to vibrant magenta. Under ultraviolet light, the specimen glows with a vivid fluorescence, highlighting its ruby-rich zones and enhancing its visual allure. Compact yet striking, this piece captures the exceptional beauty of Hopedale corundum and would make an excellent addition to any fine mineral or gemstone collection, or could be used as lapidary rough to cut cabochons.
