This corundum-sapphire cabochon is an beautiful rich purple colour and originates from Hopedale, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The lapidary rough was found by a local prospector, Edmund Saunders. It has been shaped into a large freeform pear or drop shaped cabochon measuring 24 mm tall, 22 mm wide, and 4 mm thick, with a total weight of 12.20 carats. The stone fluoresces vividly under UV light.
