This corundum captured within its natural host rock, displays striking patterns and including both sapphire and ruby (lavender to red colours) with fine specks of pyrite. The lapidary rough originates from Hopedale, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, found by local prospector, Edmund Saunders. The material has been shaped into a large freeform, pear or drop-shapped cabochon measuring 32.5 mm tall, 21.5 mm wide, and 6 mm thick, with a total weight of 20.85 carats. The stone fluoresces vividly under UV light.
