This striking cabochon showcases corundum alongside its natural host rock matrix, creating a beautiful contrast of textures and tones. The granular corundum ranges from soft lavender sapphire to deep ruby red and occurs amongst lighter coloured bluish grey feldspar.

What makes this piece truly special is its history. The lapidary rough was discovered in Hopedale, Newfoundland and Labrador, by local prospector Edmund Saunders, and has been hand-shaped into a large, freeform pear-drop shaped cabochon. Under a UV light, it puts on a spectacular show, fluorescing vividly.
